For the 2022 Beijing Games, our Move As One campaign enabled Team Toyota USA athletes to express gratitude to those who supported them. We created a series of short social assets alongside three longer films.
Chloe Kim’s film featured real-time footage from her performance and aired immediately after her gold medal win. Oksana Masters’s story evolved during production to include a congratulatory message from Team Toyota, as she became the most decorated U.S. Winter Paralympian. We also highlighted Nathan Chen, Olympic champion and Yale student, with a warmer visual tone to move away from a conventional spotlight portrayal.
From concept through post-production, I was closely involved across the project. We filmed in California, including a tightly scheduled five-hour window with Chloe Kim, combining controlled studio setups with separate car footage. A notable moment was capturing her car on a bridge, with traffic temporarily halted to enable drone shots.
Each film integrated authentic voice recordings from the athletes’ families, reinforcing the idea that no athlete competes alone. Due to Oksana’s illness at the time, we adapted the production approach and filmed her without direct interaction, maintaining both safety and narrative integrity.
All films were directed by Nick Enriquez.
The project required a high level of flexibility in both storytelling and execution, and stood out for its balance between emotional authenticity and production precision.
